Guidance and support for leaving high-control environments

If you’re starting to question things or thinking about leaving a high-control environment (like Jehovah's Witnesses) I want you to know you’re not crazy, and you’re definitely not alone. I built The Exit Connection for people who are right where you are: unsure, overwhelmed, and trying to figure out what comes next without blowing up their entire life. Here, you’ll find real guidance, honest stories from people who’ve been through it, and support you can access safely and privately. There’s no pressure and no agenda, just a place to think clearly, move at your own pace, and start building a life that actually feels like yours.

Steph's Story
I was born into the Jehovah’s Witness organization in 1995. My parents were both active members, recently baptized and fully involved in the beliefs.

About The Exit Connection
If you’ve found yourself here quietly, it probably means something doesn’t sit right, and that can feel unsettling. Questioning what you’ve been taught, especially in a high control environment like Jehovah's Witnesses, isn’t a failure of faith or character. It’s a sign that you’re thinking, processing, and trying to understand things for yourself. That’s not something to feel guilty about, it’s actually something to respect in yourself.
Maybe something specific brought you here. For some people, it’s learning that teachings they were told were unchanging have actually shifted over time. For others, it’s questions about how certain situations have been handled, or noticing that outside information is strongly discouraged. Sometimes it’s just a feeling of, “Why am I not allowed to look into this more?”
Whatever it is, there’s a reason you’re here.
You’ve probably also heard that looking at information like this is “apostate” and dangerous. That word carries a lot of weight for active JW's, and it’s meant to stop you before you even start. But take a second and think about this honestly: If something is true, it can stand up to questions. It doesn’t need to be protected from them.
Being here doesn’t mean you’ve done anything wrong. It doesn’t mean you’ve made a decision. It simply means you’re allowing yourself to look, think, and understand. Researching is important because it gives you clarity instead of pressure. It allows you to look at information from multiple perspectives, understand where beliefs come from, and decide what actually makes sense to you. No one here is trying to rush you into a decision or tell you what to believe. The goal is simple: you deserve to make informed choices about your own life.
At The Exit Connection, the mission is to provide a space that feels safe, private, and real. You’ll find honest stories from people who’ve been where you are, practical guidance for navigating difficult situations, and resources designed to help you think things through at your own pace. Whether you’re just starting to question or already considering your next steps, you’re allowed to take this one piece at a time.
It’s also okay if you feel conflicted. You can care deeply about your family and still have doubts. You can feel fear and curiosity at the same time. Nothing you’re experiencing right now makes you weak or wrong.
Before you explore the rest of the site, take a breath and remind yourself: you’re not alone, you’re not in trouble, and you’re allowed to ask questions.
